Zamami Island

Boasting its 584 inhabitants and its 6km2, Zamami Island is part of the Kerama Island composed of five inhabited islands and nine principal islands which are not inhabited. Well know by scuba divers for its coral reef and its biological diversity the turquoise sea will take your breath out if you're brave enough to sleep under a tent 10 feet from the Ama beach all by yourself with the only comfort of the sound of the waves breaking the shore.

To reach this island, you'll have to take the ferry at Tomari port in Naha. The price of the round trip ticket is around 4030¥ witch makes over 31€. The trip takes 2 hours and if the weather is mild enough, you may be able to spend your time on the deck of the boat. Be careful to avoid sunburn !

The landscape is scenic and there will be no buses to help you get up on the high cliff to watch the storm coming, nor to go to the only village of the island. But kind locals will happily help you go there driving you in the back of their old trucks. You'll be able to find modest places to eat in the village of Zamami, no more than ten different places will allow you to discover their traditional cooking that will amaze you without a doubt.

Bien connu des plongeurs marins pour ses récifs coralliens et sa diversité biologique, l'eau turquoise de la mer vous coupera le souffle si vous êtes prêt à dormir sous une tente à quelques mètres de la plage d'Ama, seuls, avec pour seul réconfort le bruit des vagues s’échouant sur le rivage.

Pour accéder à l'île, il vous faudra prendre le ferry au port de Tomari à Naha. Le prix du billet aller-retour est autour de 4030¥ ce qui fait un peu plus de 31€. Le voyage dure 2 heures et si le temps est clément, vous pourrez passez votre temps sur le pont du bateau. Mais attention aux coups de soleil !

Le paysage est scénique et aucun bus ne vous emmènera en haut de la grande falaise pour admirer la tempête approcher, pas plus qu'il ne vous aurait emmené au seul village de l'île. Mais d'aimables habitants seront ravis quand à eux de vous conduire à l'arrière de leurs vieilles camionnettes. Vous pourrez alors trouver de modestes lieux où manger dans le village de Zamami, pas plus de dix endroits différents vous permettront de découvrir leur cuisine traditionnelle qui vous émerveillera sans l'ombre d'un doute.
