Yanaka Reien

I am here inviting you to visit a graveyard! The Yanaka Reien used to be a Buddhist graveyard associated with the Tennoji temple. But during the restoration of the Meiji era and with the separation of Buddhism and Shintoism, it turned public and thus became the largest graveyard of Japan. Nowadays, it is “only” the largest of Tokyo.

Walking around this place will make you feel simply out of time. Merely the passing by of the railway will remind you sometimes that you're still standing here and now. It more looks like a peaceful garden fulfilled with many aged trees, singing birds and smelly flowers. It is in one word plainly restful.

The graveyard takes place in Taito city, north Tokyo. You can access the place by taking the famous Yamanote line to the Nippori station.

It is close to downtown and easy to reach for a quite and peaceful moment.

Je vous invite ici à visiter un cimetière ! Le Yanaka Reien fut par le passé un cimetière bouddhiste associé au temple Tennoji. Mais pendant la restauration de l'ère Meiji et avec la séparation du bouddhisme et su shintoïsme, il devint public et ainsi prit la place du plus grand cimetière du Japon. De nos jours, il est « seulement » le plus grand de Tokyo.

En flânant dans ce lieu, vous vous sentirez purement hors du temps. Seul le passage des trains non loin de là vous rappellera parfois à la réalité. Il ressemble plus à un paisible jardin empli d'arbres anciens, de chants d'oiseaux et de fleurs parfumées. Cet endroit est en un mot simplement reposant.

Le cimetière se situe à Taito, au nord de Tokyo. Vous pouvez y accéder en empruntant la célèbre ligne Yamanote jusqu'à l'arrêt Nippori.

C'est proche du centre et facile d'accès pour un moment calme et paisible.
